Writing something

Here it is: The Garden Plot. This is the one at the community garden I had purchased for use over the summer. It's ugly. Still, it's better than a number of other plots, which are completely covered in weeds and stuck-tight grass. All we have to do is peel off the tarps. I'm sure it's gross under there, but our cleanup will be relatively minimal. Relatively.

If you'd like to see the plot from a different angle, complete with an image of my kid doing what he does best (moving swiftly) then here:

I have a lot going on and I have nothing going on, it seems. My posting habit here has been a little spotty. I'm thoroughly enjoying my Creative Writing Nonfiction class. I wrote my first essay and turned it in. I don't know if it's good or not so good. I think it has some good qualities, and it's not a total failure, but I imagine it's not so tight that it couldn't do with some decent revisions. I enjoyed writing it.

I recently finished reading several books from the Moomintroll series to my son. My sister and I were big fans of the books when we were kids, and I'm delighted to learn my son seems as fascinated by the moomins and their friends as I was. We seem to have run out of books to read, so tonight I stopped through Powell's in Beaverton and picked up a slightly-yellowed copy of Walter Farley's The Black Stallion for $1.99. There's one of the nice things about having kids. I'm loving getting Son interested in the books that meant so much to me when I was little. The Black Stallion series enthralled me.

I'm still waiting on the final word about my Japanese Garden tour guide status. My mentor has approved me, and she talked to the volunteer coordinator about it. I've learned that she hadn't yet filled out the appropriate documentation, so I'm waiting to hear if that's been completed. I'm going to have to prod the volunteer coordinator as she has a boat load of docents to deal with and I don't want to get forgotten and float away. I'll write again tomorrow to see where I stand. Since I've decided I'm so into outlines, I've been working on a tour outline, which I will then transfer (in far fewer words) onto some cheat cards. I'd like to have those cards with me in case I blank out in front of the crowd. I can see myself completely losing the simplest bit of information rather than the more complicated stuff. If I forget these simple bits of information, it could bring the tour to a screaming halt (er, what's the name of the guy who designed the place? Oh, that would be appalling). I'll need to have a prompt.

I'm ready to do it. I want to be able to write about how it went!

I LOVE the *Black Stallion* books too. But my favorites...by far....I still read them, are the Albert Payson Terhune books. I think so much of what I value: courage, nobility, justice, humor, was introduced to me in those pages. Not to mention collies.

I like yr blog....
