Weeder came to town this weekend, and I got to give her and a small group of her friends and family an informal Japanese Garden Tour. She gave me this sweet little wind chime as a Thank You gift. It's pretty neat to get real live garden decor from Weeder, as she's featured many of her own on her blog. She has wonderful and eclectic taste, the kind I wish I could open up and let out for my yard. I've always wanted to fascinate and entertain people who stop by. I've seen places like that during garden tours in Eugene; there always seems to be a very sweet sense of whimsy and fun that leaves visitors feeling rejuvenated.
Maybe I can use this chime for some inspiration.
I enjoyed going to the Japanese garden as ususal, although parking was evil. I forgot to warn Weeder about warm summer Sundays at the Japanese Garden/Rose Test Garden area. I usually go during off-peak hours and am plenty used to zipping in and finding any old parking spot I want. Weeder's group arrived in a fine mood, however, and they were really fun to be with. I quickly got the sense that these people have a great sense of humor and know how to have a good time. Weeder's a former Oregonian (and still one with all her heart, I believe) who has lived in Northern California for several years. She wants to come back home. I'm rooting for her to get here soon.
Weeder and her family/friends invited me to get something to eat after I finished showing them around the place, and I'm sorry I had to decline. We had company coming last night and I had to get home to help prepare for them, and besides: Husband had a giant brisket on the barbecue grill that he had been cooking/smoking since 10 or 11 in the morning. I needed to save room. Next time she comes to town (next time you come to town!) I'd love to do lunch.
Weeder said thanks to me, but I don't know if I said thanks back. So here it is: Thanks! What a great way to spend a sunny afternoon in Portland.
