We brought Rosie the Cat home today. She's a little concerned. Really, she wants to cuddle and sit on laps, but then the darn dog and the hissing King Cat come along and rattle her.
Actually, Jeff the Dog is keeping his respectful distance, although I know he would adore sticking his schnoz under her tail. He's actually a smart little cookie, and he understands what cats can do to doggie noses. Casey taught him, and he remembers.
Casey the Cat, though... ooh. Rosie is totally deferring to him. She wants no trouble. She understands that she is on his turf, and that he is the boss, but he's still being a little bully cat. Casey did this with Lily and Jeff when they first met a few years ago. Not only did he bully them, but he abused them. He chased them with intent to harm. We were shocked because he was such a tender little kitten, but he was establishing his personal boundaries with them, and they learned to respect that. That lasted two or three days, and then peace reigned.
It may take a few days for Casey to once again establish where he stands, this time with Rosie, but I don't think he'll be able to abuse her like he did the dogs. For one thing, the dogs sort of earned Casey's wrath at the time, whereas poor Miss Rosie just wants everything to be okay. Also, Rosie's just going to hide under things until the bad moon's done rising, or the ill wind blows away, or whatever. We'll be patient.
We're used to waiting for her.
